The Hill Names a New Features Editor

If National Journal‘s Ron Fournier had the most effusive internal memos around Washington about this staff, The Hill‘s British-born Hugo Gurdon keeps it clipped and clean and gets right to the point. No otherworldly over-the-top praise for these journalists.

In a recent internal memo, Gurdon announces newsroom moves, everything from a new Features Editor — Emily Goodin is taking over from Kris Kitto, who recently left the publication. In another big newsroom move, Niall Stanage has been promoted to Associate Editor. They’ve also hired Ben Goad for the Business & Lobbying beat. He comes to Washington from the Press Enterprise in Riverside, Calif., and will sit just outside Gurdon’s office, which means he’s in the hot seat. He can eavesdrop on everything going on inside the nerve center of the office. But also, they can keep a close eye on him.

See the memo.

News Channel 8 Does 50 MB

News Channel’s 8′s Natasha Barrett, host of “Talk Back Live,” does an especially lively take on the The Hill‘s 50 Most Beautiful People of Capitol Hill. Barrett conducts an in-depth interview with Features Editor Kris Kitto, who said anyone on Capitol Hill is eligible to make the list, including cafeteria workers.

Barrett questions the hell out of Kitto and asks, “Have you ever had a hot cafeteria worker?” She also asks how the list is compiled behind the scenes.

Barrett inquired about the nominations Kitto receives, including self-nominations.

“I think it’s an opportunity for people to manifest those crushes people have on their co-workers,” Kitto says, adding that yes, self-nominations do happen.

They discuss the fantastically named Anu Vakkalanka (#10), whom Barrett refers to as “FaLaLaLaLa.”

The Hill Releases “50 Most Beautiful” on Cap Hill

50 mb.jpg

You know what they say, ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’ and The Hill‘s 2010 “50 Most Beautiful” list is no exception. While I’d consider beholding a few of The Hill‘s chosen beauties, I’d probably ‘bedrop’ an equal number…

And though big bones, bad hair and even the busted found fair representation in The Hill‘s lineup, sadly, journalists did not. The lone reporter to make the cut this year was the Daily Caller’s Jon Ward.

That’s why Betsy and I reached out to a panel of contributors to compile our own list, “Fishbowl’s 5 Most Beautiful” – five men and five women in the media who deserve the honor (and ridicule) of being named to our list of sexy scribes and broadcast babes.

Until then, check out The Hill‘s “50 Most Beautiful” here and watch TheHill.com’s Kris Kitto discuss list with Fox 5 below:

Brokaw: TV was “Least Appealing Part”

<img alt="tb.jpg" src="/fishbowlDC/files/original/tb.jpg" width="260" height="261" class="alignright" hspace="3" vspace="3"/The Hill’s Capital Living Editor Kris Kitto interviewed Special Correspondent for NBC News Tom Brokaw on Brokaw’s upcoming documentary, “American Character Along Highway 50″, which airs this Monday, Jan. 18 on the USA Network.

Asked how it feels to be out of the anchor chair, Brokaw said, “It’s time. It has been from the beginning. I knew what I was doing. This was my idea. Someone had once calculated that I had been on the air almost every day since I was 19, and I was 64 when I retired. I’d been on television a lot, but being on television was the least appealing part for me. I love the work.”
