The photograph accompanying Esquire.com’s feature
Marty Beckerman, who has been Esquire’s online features editor for a month, recently took on an ambitious assignment that cast him into a role he never envisioned: Former Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin’s Facebook translator.
He spent approximately seven hours dissecting her Facebook messages – her “ridiculous musings,” as he calls them. The feature includes, What She Said, What We Think She Meant, and Translation. The result is here.
Subject: “Are You Capable of Decency, Rahm Emanuel?” (From a Feb. 1 post.)
What She Said: “Rahm’s slur on all God’s children with cognitive and developmental disabilities – and the people who love them – is unacceptable, and it’s heartbreaking.”
What We Think She Meant: When the White House chief of staff called liberals “f—ing retarded” for opposing health care reform compromises, he expressed bigotry against the less fortunate – who, by the way, could run the country better than liberals.
Translation: Rahm Emanuel is not capable of decency.
