Romney Aides Land Three-cycled News Story

As they say, everything old is new again. Such was the case this morning when Mike Allen, Chris Cillizza and Rick Klein all reported breaking and/or exclusive news that a group of former Romney aides are forming a consulting group.

From Playbook:

EXCLUSIVE – ROMNEY AIDES FORM CONSULTING PRACTICE: Four political veterans with a strong mix of campaign, government and private sector experience today announced the formation of the Shawmut Group LLC, a Boston-based strategic communications, public affairs and political consulting firm. The Shawmut Group consists of Beth Myers, Peter Flaherty and Eric Fehrnstrom, all of whom served in senior leadership roles with former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney…”

From the Morning Fix:

Romney Team Forms New Company: Three top aides to former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney — Beth Myers, Eric Fehrnstrom and Peter Flaherty — are starting a new consulting company known as the Shawmut Group. Myers managed Romney’s 2008 presidential campaign while Fehrnstrom was the candidate’s traveling press aide and Flaherty served as deputy campaign manager…

From The Note:

Team Romney finds a way to pay the bills. “Four political veterans with a strong mix of campaign, government and private sector experience today announced the formation of the Shawmut Group LLC, a Boston-based strategic communications, public affairs and political consulting firm,” per the press release. “The Shawmut Group consists of Beth Myers, Peter Flaherty and Eric Fehrnstrom, all of whom served in senior leadership roles with former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney…

Okay, so what? A Beantown tipster tells FishbowlDC that the news of the Shawmut Group is about 7 months old — and it is. On December 13, 2008, The Boston Herald ran this:

Romney aides start agency

BYLINE: By THOMAS GRILLO SECTION: FINANCE; Pg. 022

Three of former Gov. Mitt Romney’s staff have started a political consulting agency that will launch next year. Eric Fehrnstrom, Peter Flaherty and Beth Myers have filed with the Secretary of State William Galvin’s office to form the Shawmut Group.
The Lexington-based firm will provide political consulting, issues management and strategic communications advice. Since April, the trio has been working for Free and Strong America PAC, Romney’s political action committee…
