Company-Wide Memo: TWT Reporters to Meet New Management Team

TWT newsroom employees learned this morning that the sale of the TWT has finally gone through between News World Communications, run by Preston Moon, and New World Media Development. Details are scarce at this hour. A meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. where reporters will meet with top brass to gather more of the finite details. The e-mail subject line was hardly dramatic. It reads: “General Meeting Announcement.”

Everyone,

I am pleased to announce that there will be a meeting for all employees this morning (Tuesday November 2, 2010) with the new management team of The Washington Times.  Please assemble at 11:00 in the auditorium.  I look forward to seeing you there.

Thank you,

Frank Grow
Acting General Manager

Politico’s Keach Hagey reported the news of the sale update earlier this morning. Read her piece here.

Internal Memo Says TWT to Sell for $1

U.S. News & World Report‘s Paul Bedard has an internal memo claiming that the 30-day impending deal to sell The Washington Times is for $1.

Michael Marshall
, UPI editor and TWT adviser, wrote the memo. Bedard’s writes, the sale will be completed within 30 days and that “many of the former Times officials who were fired by Preston Moon, who has been financing the paper for the past several months, will be reinstalled.” Preston Moon is the son of the Rev. Sun Myung Moon the South Korean spiritual and head of the Unification Church.

The story indicates there is no official word on what will happen with TWT Editor Sam Dealey, who had no comment just yet.

TWT 25 Bash Updates

From a source:

    Tom McDevitt
announced after the fire alarm that it was set off by someone smoking in a hallway. Some observers, without proof or confirmation, speculated the culprit was TWT assistant National editor Stacy McCain, who is rarely seen without a cigarette.

No announcements last night concerning the future leadership of The Times.

    Highlights:

  • Michael Steele was the MC.
  • The public debut of new Times business-side leaders, Tom McDevitt and Preston Moon.
  • Maggie Thatcher sent a video of support. Bush sent letter.
  • Cool video of the history of The Times, with pictures from the newsroom and a clip from Reagan praising The Times from 15 years ago.
  • A photo was taken of the crowd at the beginning of the dinner and it appeared on the cover of a special section that was handed out as people left.
  • Pretty good food.
  • Alcohol served at the pre-dinner reception. (Unlike 5 years ago.)
  • Some attendees: George Allen, G. Gordon Liddy, Wayne LaPierre, Grover Norquist, Ed Feulner. Multiple ambassadors.
  • A musical anthem unveiled as a tribute to TWT.
  • No sign of Archibald.

The Times’ own write-up is here.
