The Republican National Committee’s Site Selection Committee today announced its support for Cleveland as the 2016 convention host city. The final running was between the Ohio city on Lake Erie and Dallas. In June, Denver and Kansas City were eliminted as possible host cities.
The RNC and Cleveland will now enter into exclusive negotiations regarding the city’s bid to host the 2016 convention. And at an August meeting in Chicago, the Site Selection Committee will present their recommendation to the RNC.
RNC Chairman Reince Priebus added, “A Cleveland convention offers our party a great steppingstone to the White House in 2016, and I’m encouraged by the committee’s recommendation. The team from Cleveland has gone above and beyond the call of duty and I think they’re representative of a city eager to show the country all the fantastic things they have to offer.”
Cleveland also has a bid to host the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
That said, it’s never too early to start planning where to go out! We reached out to a friend who lives in downtown Cleveland for the lowdown on what not to miss around the Cleveland Convention Center (300 Lakeside Avenue) near East 4th, the Warehouse District, and The Flats.
