NPR Ups Geewax, Adds Sanders

NPR announced several changes to its National Desk via internal memo this morning.  The first is the addition of Sam Sanders as an Assistant Producer on the National Desk.  Sanders, who has been reporting for the Washington Post since last year, will start his new gig on July 5th.  Additionally, Senior Business Editor Marilyn Geewax has been named National Economics Correspondent.  She will write primarily for but plans to continue contributing to NPR’s radio coverage.  Congrats to Marilyn and Sam!

WaPo Producer Returns to Radio Roots

After just 10 months at WaPo, producer Sam Sanders is returning to NPR. He will be a radio producer on NPR’s national desk and will also do some on-air reporting. He was a fellow there from 2009-2010.

NYT ran an op-ed Sunday by President Obama and has actually decided not to charge syndication clients who want to run the piece after some complaints from editorial page editors.


Fox News was the second most-watched basic cable channel in primetime last week, only behind USA. FNC was 5th overall in Total Day viewership. MSNBC was 24th in primetime and 32nd in Total Day. CNN ranked 26th in prime and 23rd in Total Day. And Glenn Beck, in particular, had a great week, ratings-wise.

Also, a good week for MSNBC in primetime.

Earlier this week former deputy press secretary to Presidents Nixon and Ford Jerry Warren said White House press secretary Robert Gibbs can be “too jovial about serious things.” Now, the Daily Beast’s Lee Siegel calls Gibbs “smug.” Poor guy can’t win.
