Sebastian Junger: Nice Biceps, Journo Writes

We’ve seen him on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” — and on Sunday he was featured in WaPo‘s Style section in a rather descriptive piece by Manuel Roig-Franzia.

What’s noteworthy about the profile is the intricately detailed physical description of Junger, specifically his biceps. To match the written story, WaPo goes all high tech by having Patterson Clark, a sketch artist, draw Junger at the scene of the interview, the Afghan Grill, with the Brushes App on an iPad. While we don’t get to see a time-lapse sketch of his biceps, we do get various versions of Junger’s chiseled face.

An excerpt :
Before taking his seat, Junger pauses to survey the landscape. He’s a solidly built man’s man, with a square jaw and penetrating eyes. When he sheds a light jacket and lifts his arms, biceps perk up beneath a snug black tee-shirt.

Later we hear about his Achilles tendon.

The excerpt:
He suggests everyone pick an entree and share. No one argues. Junger selects sauteed eggplant, but later digs into the lamb and shrimp, as well, passing the plates as he reminisces about firefights and that time he tore his Achilles tendon out on patrol.

  • An ABC release announced, “According to Nielsen Media Research for the week of October 29, 2007, ABC News’ ‘Nightline’ increased among total viewers and Adults 25-54 compared to last year while both CBS’ ‘Letterman’ and NBC’s ‘Leno’ declined.” Also, “According to Nielsen Media Research for Sunday November 4, ABC News ‘This Week with George Stephanopoulos’ won the key Adults 25-54 demo, outperforming both CBS’ ‘Face the Nation’ and NBC’s ‘Meet the Press.’”

  • The New York Observer reports on The Atlantic’s anniversary party, “‘This is so offensive! Why is there a visible VIP area where people are gorging themselves on drinks and shrimp?’ said Steve Ruddy, a 35-year-old actor who lives in the West Village. ‘This is the strangest event I’ve ever been to,’ said Linda Lakritz of the Upper West Side.
