Miniter ‘Very, Very Happy’ With Peanuts

Peanuts_gang.png As FishbowlDC reported Thurday, TWT settled a lawsuit put forth by Rich Miniter, a former employee of TWT. Miniter claimed he was “very, very happy” and got “everything he wanted.”

But “everything” is a tricky word.

A settlement agreement obtained by FishbowlDC states: “TWT agrees to pay Mr. Miniter the gross sum of Twenty Thousand Dollars.” And that $20,000 doesn’t appear to include his lawyer’s fees.

Miniter, who worked as a consultant for TWT from October 2008 to February 2009 and then as Editorial Page Editor until TWT dismissed him from daily work activities in July and fired him in November, said TWT owed him a quarter million in fees. He said this on record, but quickly asked FishbowlDC to take it down, insisting he had been speaking off the record, which is untrue. In any event, a $20,000 settlement minus $250,000 in fees can’t equal “very, very happy.”

TWT Calls Surprise Staff Meeting

TWT‘s VP of HR Sonya Jenkins just notified staff of a surprise meeting at the request of Jonathan Slevin. In response to the memo (below), one staffer said “here comes the hammer.” Stay tuned.

TWT Cuts 401 (k) Matching

While some members of TWT were concerned that the paper may not make payroll, FishbowlDC is told that employees were paid on schedule today. However, Times VP of HR Sonya Jenkins sent a memo this afternoon informing employees that “effective November 13, 2009 (today), the matching contributions under The Washington Times 401(k) Savings Plan and Supplemental Survivor & Retirement Plan (SSRS) will be suspended.”

Jenkins said in her memo, “we regret having to take this action but believe it is the prudent thing to do in light of current economic and industry conditions.”

Another heaping helping of the piping hot casserole of crazy coming out of The Washington Times this morning: After a press release and a memo about the press release were issued in reference to TWT‘s major management overhaul, an email was finally sent to staff, inviting them to freak out meet in the ballroom at 11:30 for a meeting to discuss moving forward in a financially responsible manner.

Washington Times Replaces Casseday

Sonya Jenkins has replaced Randall Casseday as the Washington Times H.R. Director.

Casseday recently pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography and online child exploitation.

Jenkins has served as H.R. Director at such companies as Electrolux, Siemens and Honeywell, after earlier human resources positions at Fuji Film and Wal Mart headquarters.
