Taking Out The Trash, 11.21.06

  • Is Thanksgiving just not that much of a draw? Or as one reader reminds us, “Um, this is home. I am staying here and I am going home at the same time.”

  • A tipster tells us that VandeHei and Harris spoke to the entire Capitol Leader team today except Marty Tolchin was noticeably absent. Hmm….

  • Eric Boehlert believes that despite honoring Ed Bradley and his career, “CBS still owes Bradley a belated apology stemming from its shameful decision during the 2004 presidential campaign to pointedly refuse to run a factually solid story of his that chronicled how the Bush administration had misled the country into war.”

  • Trevor Butterworth tells Romenesko that the Washington Post’s loss of John Harris and Jim VandeHei “is a failure of management and leadership at a newspaper rather than a cypher for technological change and the news business.”

  • The service for CBS News’ Bradley re-airs tonight on C-SPAN at 9:45 p.m. in its entirety.

  • C-SPAN announces that Rep. Barney Frank, incoming chair of the House Financial Services Committee, will be on C-SPAN’s, “Newsmakers,” Sunday, November 26. Participating in the questioning are reporters Rick Klein of the Boston Globe and Damien Paletta of Dow Jones Newswires.

  • An NBC release states that “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” was “the No. 1 network evening newscast, winning the week of November 13-17, 2006 in total viewers, homes and in the key demographic adults 25-54.” This is the ninth consecutive week the broadcast placed first.

  • An ABC release shows that “World News with Charles Gibson” “cuts the gap with NBC by 65% among total viewers” versus a year ago. “Only 70,000 key demo viewers separated ABC and NBC’s ‘Nightly News,’ the smallest gap between the two broadcasts since the week of October 9, 2006.”
