Media critics (and we admit, ourselves as well…) never tire of talking about the “good ‘ol days” of journalism (even though we all know that they weren’t necessarily all that good…and besides, most newshounds tell us the good times largely happened at night anyway…).

Slate’s Jack Shafer tosses his hat into the ring by discussing the declining state of newspaper design. Here in DC, we’ve got plenty of design diversity (with different formats seen in the Post, Examiner, Express, Roll Call, City Paper, etc.).
