Trash Talkin’ Now, Bad Singin’ Next Week

DC media types will take center stage at the Rock and Roll Hotel next Wednesday for “Karaoke in the Capital” and the trash talkin’ has already started…

TPM‘s Christina Bellantoni is taking on former colleagues TWT‘s “Green and Glover” columnists. In a press release for the event, TPM‘s newest senior reporter said, “Yo, Green and Glover, I’m really happy for you, I’mma let you perform, but Beyonce has one of the best karaoke song of all time!”

“No worries, before Beyonce there was the Material Girl,” Stephanie Green and Liz Glover fought back.

The event is hosted by the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC) Mid-Atlantic Chapter and part of the proceeds benefit Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation.

Democratic and Republican Congressmen alike will perform. Other media performers include: CBS’ Bob Schieffer, Roll Call‘s Shira Toeplitz, Hotline‘s Quinn McCord, Mother Jones’ David Corn, Politico‘s Chris Frates and Politics Daily’s Lynn Sweet and Melinda Henneberger.

We think Schieffer, who regularly performs at DC functions with his band “Honky Tonk Confidential,” puts it best: “If you appreciate good music this is probably not the party for you.”

Dets and more from the journo performers after the jump…

From the release…

Toeplitz: “Every member of my family is in the music business except for me. You’re about to see why.”

McCord: “I am frighteningly talented, with the emphasis on ‘frightening.’”

Corn: “In college I was in a band with a lead guitarist who ended up in a psychiatric hospital.”

Frates: “As a former band geek, I’m stoked to belt one out for such a worthwhile cause. And when you hear me sing, you’ll know why I played sax.”

Sweet: “Singing? I thought this was an oral reading of my Politics Daily posts.”

Awards will be given out for, drumroll please… Best Media Karaoke Performance, Best in Show, Funniest Performance, Best-Worst Karaoke, Keep Your Day Job, Best Duet and You Sing & Dogs Cry.

The AAPC’s Karaoke in the Capital is sponsored by Politics Daily, National Association of Realtors, Politics Magazine, Campaign Grid, Diaz Communications, Edmonds Associates, Jackson Group Media, Turner Strategies, Lobbyists.info, Revolvis.com, Aristotle, DgFastChannel, Sandler, Reiff & Young, National Newspaper Association, and the Rock and Roll Hotel.
