Ward Explains his Quick Move From The Daily to HuffPost

This just in…an open letter from Jon Ward to many members of the Washington, D.C. media, pundits, the White House press shop, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, and former top aide to President Bush, Karl Rove. In the letter, Ward explains his speedy jump from The Daily to HuffPost, having quit after just one month. He tells you the high points of his career in the past year. He also slightly every so gingerly addresses the sharp shift in ideology from working primarily for conservative publications in the past to the left-leaning HuffPost now.

“I wanted to let you know that after only a short time with The Daily, I’ve been tapped by Arianna Huffington to cover the 2012 campaign for The Huffington Post. It’s an exciting opportunity, and I’m thrilled to have it. I do want to say that I think The Daily is run by some awesome people, is a great product, and is going to do incredibly well. My departure should not be seen as any kind of negative reflection on them. I simply was presented – out of the blue – with a difficult choice between two really great options.

Arianna has personally told me to keep on doing what I’ve been doing, pursuing hard-hitting and thoughtful journalism that is fair to both sides but doesn’t shrink back from calling a spade a spade and having some personality. In the past year, I’ve broken news of the White House December tax deal with Republicans, revealed that car privileges usually reserved for national security officials were being given to top White House political advisers, and wrote months before the pack about lukewarm feelings among many in the tea party movement about a Palin presidential run. I can’t wait to go even further in reporting thoroughly and thinking deeply about American politics and policy as the campaign heats up. I hope that whether you’re a friend, a colleague or a source, you’ll continue to be interested and served by what I write. Many thanks!”
