Only in Washington…

Looking for a little fun and light conversation? How about four hours of discussion on Cold War stereotypes at American University? We think sticking needles through our eyeballs sounds more entertaining.

But it’s Washington. So there may actually be takers.

On April 13 starting at 2 p.m., the University is hosting a discussion on the above hot topic. Featured speakers include: Sergei Khrushchev, formerly a senior fellow with Brown University’s Watson Institute for International Studies and son of the late U.S.S.R. premier Nikita Khrushchev, former Rep. James Symington, John Beyrle, former U.S. Ambassador to the Russian Federation, and Vladimir Pechatnov, chair of the Department of European and American Studies, MGIMO University–Moscow. Others, moderators, etc…: Allen Pietrobon, AU grad student, Anton Fedyashin, exec. director of AU’s Initiative for Russian Culture (moderator for first panel), and Eric Lohr, Susan E. Lehrman Chair of Russian History and Culture at American University (moderator for second panel).

If you make to it to the end of the second panel, there’s a reception.

Reporters who are interested in attending to cover either panel discussion, please RSVP by noon on Friday, April 12, to or 202-885-5951.  Reporters will have the opportunity to interview panelists immediately following each panel’s student Q & A session. Members of the news media covering either panel are invited to attend the reception immediately following the conclusion of the second panel at 6 p.m.
