Washington Life Executive Editor Michael Clements was recently engaged to Anchyi Wei, Web Design Team Lead at RMCI. Wei, who grew up nearby in Maryland, is also a photographer. The two met in March last year while volunteering for the non-profit Becky’s Fund.
Given the couple’s proclivity for creativity, it’s not surprising they were engaged at the opening night of the exhibition “On/Off the Grid” at Irvine Contemporary Gallery. Clements, who is also an artist, created a painting entitled “The Proposal,” which had ‘Will u?’ written across it. The painting was hung on a back wall during the opening night of the exhibition.
When Wei and Clements arrived, Gentile subtly suggested that they come view “a special painting”. After making their way to the painting, Clements took to one knee and proposed.
“I let a few friends know about it, so, I had support, but I was a nervous wreck, I’m not going to lie,” Clements told FishbowlDC. “I remember at one point looking over and noticing that the entire gallery had stopped and were standing around watching us. Luckily, Anchyi said yes!”
The couple has yet to set a date, but are looking at a wedding this fall.
“I do so much event planning at Washington Life, so apparently, I’ve been tasked with handling our wedding too,” said Clements. “We picked out the ring at Adeler Jewelers and Anchyi already chose her dress; so, basically, she’s like, let me know when and where the wedding is and I’ll be there.”
Congrats to Michael and Anchyi from FishbowlDC!
