Last night at the National Building Museum, Washingtonian hosted its annual AT&T Best of Washington party, likely, the best event of the summer in DC. ‘Best of’ was Washingtonian’s first major event under the helm of its new editor, Michael Schaffer.
More than 60 of the magazine’s 100 Very Best Restaurants served samples bites from their menu, including 1789, Ted’s Bulletin, Toki Underground, BLT Steak, Hank’s Oyster Bar, Lyon Hall and STK, alongside libations including Pyrat Rum and Patrón Tequilas, among many, many, others (trust).
The soirée was themed “Madhatter,” and the “publisher’s reception” (aka VIP area) – sponsored by the American Beverage Association – offered guests dozens of costume hats to compliment attire. There was a maze, acrobatic performers and musicians, a BMW i8, and a Qatar Airways lounge featuring two of its fully-flat business class seats along with great music.
Similar food events in Washington are often packed with people, making them almost unpleasant. For the 2,000 people in attendance, the space was perfectly suited for attendees, who rarely had to wait for food and drink.
In Attendance: Washingtonian’s Sherri Dalphonse and Cathy Merrill Williams, Washingtonian Bride & Groom and MOM editor Kate Bennett, ABA’s Chris “Gindy” Gindlesperger, Buzzfeed’s Benny Johnson, Katelyn Rieley, K Street Magazine’s Kate Michael, MoKi Media’s Danna Hakki and Maha Hakki, Doug Rashid, co-founder of the Bitches Who Brunch Cori Sue Morris, co-founders of Compass Coffee Michael Haft and Harrison Suarez, (as profiled in a 12 part series by WaPo’s Going Out Guide!), Revamp’s Daniel Swartz, former Thrillist editor Leo Schmid, former Yeas & Nays-er Katy Adams, Glennon Gordon, Pamela Sharlin Krooth, Jill Collins, Barbara Martin and Jayne Sandman.
