Washingtonian’s Mathis Heads to The Atlantic

Well, that was fast.

After jumping off the TBD Titantic for Washingtonian in early March, Sommer Mathis is making yet another leap for The Atlantic, where she has been named Editor of The Atlantic Cities.

The new stand-alone site, the latest expansion of Atlantic Digital, will be the primary hub for the work of the Atlantic‘s Richard Florida, an economist and a professor who was named senior editor of the magazine in March. Florida’s focus on the vital role that cities play around the world in economic “growth, prosperity, and personal happiness.” Expect the launch in September.

Mathis was online editorial director at Washingtonian. She was a news editor at TBD. Before that she was Editor-in-Chief of DCist for three years.

Congratulations to Sommer on her new position.
