Woodruff To Deliver Keynote Address at ICFJ

From the release:

ABC News Anchor Bob Woodruff will give the keynote address at the International Center for Journalists’ 10th Annual Awards Dinner on November 13. Tom Brokaw, the former NBC Nightly News Anchor, will receive the Founders Award for Excellence in Journalism at the event, to be held in the Great Hall of News at the newly opened Newseum.

Woodruff was severely injured last year in a roadside bomb attack in Iraq. After months of rehabilitation, he has returned to work at ABC News. In his 11 years at the network, he has been a lead reporter on such key news events as 9/11, the war in Afghanistan, and the Asian tsunami.

“Bob Woodruff has shown an astounding level of commitment to covering international issues,” ICFJ President Joyce Barnathan said. “In the course of bringing us the news, he has made enormous sacrifices and stands as an example to us all.”

At the event, Tom Brokaw will receive an award for journalism excellence in honor of the International Center for Journalists’ three founders, who were dedicated to advancing high-quality journalism worldwide. Last year’s winner, CBS News’ Bob Schieffer, will present the award.

The International Center for Journalists’ Awards Dinner will take place at the Newseum, which will open its doors to a new, 250,000-square-foot location on the Mall in Washington, D.C. in September 2007.

Along with Brokaw, three international journalists will be honored for their outstanding work. The Knight International Journalism Fellowship Program gives awards to two journalists. They will be presented by Alberto Ibarguüen, president of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The Paul Klebnikov Fund for Courage in Journalism honors a journalist from the former Soviet Union.
