Wife Promotes Australia’s Forgotten Oscar Nominee

Joe Farrell, who works in Los Angeles for Scanline VFX, is Oscar nominated this year in the visual effects category for his work on Clint Eastwood‘s Hereafter. He’s also Australian born, having moved from Sydney a decade ago.

That fact was lost Down Under amidst a blast of media coverage for other 2010 Australian nominees such as Geoffrey Rush, Nicole Kidman, Jacki Baxter, and The Social Network‘s editor Kirk Baxter. So Farrell’s wife Aliza decided to take matters into her own hands, generating belated coverage today in The Australian and via the Australian Broadcasting Company:

A former film publicist in Australia, Aliza became fed up with the snub and contacted some local media outlets… Her husband has built up a strong relationship with Eastwood, working on most of the iconic director’s recent films, including Gran Torino and Flags Of Our Fathers. Farrell’s credits also include both Transformers films, Star Trek, The Golden Compass, I Robot and 2012.

The general expectation is that Inception will take home the visual effects prize this year. But at least Aliza has made it clearer now that Ben Snow, nominated for Iron Man 2, is not the only Aussie in this category to cheer for.
