AAJA-LA Set to Honor Its President with V3 Award

The LA chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA-LA) is getting ready to host their inaugural V3 Digital Media Conference this weekend. The Saturday V3 event, which stands for “vision, visibility and voice,” will be preceded on Friday by an awards ceremony at the Pacific Asia Museum.

Author, aMagazine co-founder and Wall Street Journal columnist Jeff Yang will accept the Vision Award, basically the event’s equivalent of a lifetime achievement nod. Visibility Awards will be given out to both Our America host-producer Lisa Ling and YouTube performer David Choi. And the recipient of the Voice Award will be none other than AAJA-LA current president Jocelyn “Joz” Wang (pictured). Here’s how Wang framed this unusual in-house kudo during a recent interview with aalimelight.com:

“The third category is the Voice Award, and embarrassingly enough, it’s going to me for my work on 8Asians, V3con, and [previous conference] Banana2 for helping Asian Americans find their voice online. I didn’t ask for it, but I missed a meeting, and the committee voted on this without me!”

Ha ha. FishbowlLA can think of a lot worse things to come out of missing a meeting. Wang will accept the award from actress Tamlyn Tomita. Full list of V3 conference speakers here.
