Angeleno needs you, sort of

angel.jpgOur mothership, mediabistro.com, has published a handy guide about how to pitch to Angeleno, one of our city’s many upscale lifestyle magazines. Editor-in-chief Alexandria Abramian-Mott, who says the publication caters to “wealthy shoppers,” pithily sums up the class structure of Los Angeles:

“Our readers live in big houses in the hills,” says Abramian-Mott, “and need a very good reason to come down from those hills.”

Abramian-Mott also notes that pitching to luxury magazines is difficult for journalists because luxury “isn’t necessarily accessible to writers.” In other words, if you know enough about something to write an article about it, it’s probably not expensive enough to appeal to the readership. Still, you should give it a shot. Because it’s hard to find good luxury magazine help these days.

Bonus: Here’s my own, um, unconventional guide to pitching to Brentwood magazine.
