Bill Barol’s Fundraising Ends in Three Days

Writer and early adopter Bill Barol is in the final days of raising money for his web series project on Kickstarter. He’s, as of this posting, is less than $300 away from his goal of raising his $2300 goal.

What happens if he falls short of the goal? Barol tells FBLA, “The way Kickstarter is structured, a project doesn’t get funded unless it raises its entire target amount by the deadline. You can fall $1 short and collect nothing. This is a good thing — it encourages project creators to budget realistically — but it also makes fundraising a little bit of a highwire act, particularly in the last days and hours. (In retrospect, I now realize that I set myself a tall order trying to fund the project in 45 days, especially given that both Thanksgiving and Christmas fell in that period.) So the answer to the question ‘What happens if the goal isn’t met’ is: Nothing happens. The project collapses like a flan in the sun.”
