Boston Herald Runs Andy Borowitz Story

andy_borowitz.jpgThe Boston Herald ran a story with an AP byline about Dick Cheney being on Meet the Press and telling Tim Russert that he challenged Hillary Clinton to a hunting contest.

Of course, Cheney wasn’t on Meet the Press this week. And it never happened. It was satire.

Boston Magazine explains:

“We were bamboozled,” Herald publisher Kevin Convey told Boston Daily. He explained that the item got picked up as straight news in Google, and was folded into unrelated wire reports from the AP, and appeared online and in the print edition.

Woops.

The hysterically talented satirist Andy Borowitz told FBLA,”I think it’s understandable that the Herald was confused about the factuality of the piece, because in recent weeks Hillary has increasingly been turning herself into a fictitious character.”
