The tweets you see above are from DJ Kaskade, who was set to play a private after-party for the premiere of a film about the Electric Daisy Carnival yesterday in Hollywood. Lesson o’ the day: be careful what you wish for. Because shortly after these tweets, a small riot broke out in Hollywood, led by disappointed fans who thought they were getting a free street concert. They were not.
Beavis and Butthead is set to make a return to MTV with a new 24-episode run. The network just unveiled a clip reel of the show at Comic-Con. Looks pretty funny. Collider caught up with series creator Mike Judge and spoke with him about the new run. Judge says everything went great, except when the network flipped out about his making of fun of their popular show Sixteen and Pregnant.
“They got upset about something on Sixteen and Pregnant and we had a little battle… I think it’s in there. I think it’s all in. I think, for the most part, if it is something I have to take out, it might just go straight online. I don’t know (laughs)!”
Never thought we’d live to write this sentence, but Weird Al Yankovic somehow had us questioning our sexuality after watching the early moments of his new music video. And apparently we weren’t the only ones. The YouTube comment section for Al’s new Lady Gaga parody Perform This Way is loaded with guilt-ridden confessions of uncomfortable sexual arousal. The first few shots are especially disconcerting, before you can really process all the strange and wonderful CGI being employed.
Nice work Al. Please never do this again.
If you haven’t seen the above video “Walmart” by Mr. Ghetto, it was only a matter of time. When a friend in New Orleans first sent this to us yesterday it had about 40,000 views. It’s up to nearly half-a-million views now. This thing has viral written all over it.
We bring Mr. Ghetto and his Walmart song up for those of you who have been watching this season of David Simon‘s Treme on HBO. This is what the character of Davis–a New Orleans local–is talking about when he regularly extols the glories of “Bounce.” Davis is constantly harping on Bounce as a legitimate form of musical expression in the great New Orleans tradition. This Fishie personally feels that Treme, though an otherwise wonderful show, is inadvertently sullying the reputation of the city of New Orleans and her citizens. Because, as you can see, Bounce is absolutely ridiculous.

This builds on the network’s other digital efforts, including the launch earlier this year of a strategic social media unit to help grow the number of Facebook and Twitter fans and enhance engagement on those platforms with the network’s shows.
Hip-hop and YouTube star M-Bone was shot dead over the weekend outside an Inglewood liquor store. Police tell TMZ the shooting appears to be a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
M-Bone was a member of Cali Swag District, whose song “Teach Me How to Dougie” was a quintessential 21st century viral hit. The song is pretty good, but having instant access to the video online allowed the rhythmically challenged out there to learn the dance from the comfort of their own homes. You have no idea how many wildly uncoordinated white people this Fishie knows who know how to “Dougie.” The “unofficial” (read, home made) video has over 12 million views, so that should give you some kind of indication.

Noted LA beatmaker Kutmah was born in Brighton, England, but came to live in Los Angeles at the age of 12 when his single mom became ill and was unable to look after him. He lived here illegally ever since, eventually making a name for himself in the local music scene. He was a Dublab regular and on the roster of the LA RECORD‘s emerging music label until he was picked up in Los Angeles by immigration officials nearly a year ago.
The Guardian of London has the first person tale of his arrest in Los Angeles and subsequent deportation:
I was asleep in bed with my girlfriend, Gaby, and we were woken at 5am by knocking on the door and a torch at my window. I knew straight away it was the police. I actually felt relieved. I was sick of hiding, and certain that if I spoke to the right person I’d be allowed to stay. I told Gaby I’d see her later and asked the police if I could grab my sunglasses before we left. They laughed and said, “You won’t need sunglasses where you’re going.” I thought they were joking.
David Lynch took a stab at live webcasting last night, directing a streaming broadcast of Duran Duran’s concert from the Mayan in Los Angeles. We’re gonna say, short of sending creepy old people on stage to do esoteric things, he did the best he could. Mostly that involved superimposing effects and images on top of the live concert feed.
Rolling Stone‘s Steve Appleford says Lynch’s cameramen were roaming the stage throughout the entire concert, which we would imagine would be pretty annoying. But it didn’t seem to bother Appleford too much, as he called the concert “spectacular.”

This could be interesting. Pitchfork says that David Lynch of Mulholland Drive fame will be directing a webcast of an upcoming Duran Duran concert at the Mayan in LA on March 23rd. Lynch details his concept for the webcast in the press release: “The idea is to try and create on the fly, layers of images permeating Duran Duran on the stage. A world of experimentation and hopefully some happy accidents.”
The webcast is part of an online series called “American Express Unstaged” which partners famous directors with equally famous musical counterparts. Last year Terry Gilliam directed an Arcade Fire show while Spike Lee took the helm of a Roots/John Legend production.
Can’t wait to see what kind of “happy accidents” Lynch can come up with live on the web this year.
The LBC’s own Nathaniel Hale, otherwise known as Nate Dogg, has passed away at only 41. Hale had been struggling with health problems for years after suffering strokes in 2007 and 2008. The Long Beach Press-Telegram broke the news late last night, which has since spread all over the world–including the Wall Street Journal in this rather bizarre post.
Nate Dogg made his recording debut on Dr. Dre’s “The Chronic” back in 1992–the album which blew up and put LA hip-hop culture on the global map. But we personally like “Ain’t No Fun” with Snoop from 1993 better. Just plain nasty and hilarious.
