Instructor Michele Lago (left) is an event planner and sports marketer who has worked at five Olympic games, six Super Bowls, and two Masters. Her client list includes The Coca-Cola Company, SportsMark, Special Olympics, and The Sports Authority. During an interview with Michele, we asked what her most exciting event was. She said:

“My favorite event during that time (and my husband would likely agree) was the 2007 [Sports Illustrated] Swimsuit Issue Launch Party. That was the year Beyoncé was on the cover, and we hosted a 750-person VIP party in Hollywood with all the swimsuit models. The party was logistically and creatively challenging and was one of my first large high-profile events that I managed, so I always think back on it and smile.”

FishbowlNY Hires Former TheWrap Media Reporter Alexander C. Kaufman

We have some exciting internal news to share on this Friday afternoon involving our sister site FishbowlNY.

Two weeks after co-editor Jerry Barmash accepted a TV reporter job with the New York Daily News and bid farewell to Mediabistro readers, his replacement has been confirmed. Starting Monday, April 15 as co-editor alongside Chris O’Shea will be former TheWrap media reporter Alexander C. Kaufman.

“I interviewed with a couple of other companies,” Kaufman tells us this afternoon via telephone from Boston. “I’m really excited to be joining Mediabistro and look forward to helping continue to grow the FishbowlNY brand.” Kaufman, a native of Long Island, will be based in New York.

Tanika Ray on the Good, Bad and Ugly of Hollywood Reporting

Tanika Ray went from performing with the stars as an actress and dancer to interviewing them on the red carpet. In the latest installment of Mediabistro’s So What Do You Do? series, Ray talks about the pitfalls of covering entertainment news and how her career is far from glamorous.

“I actually witnessed somebody in the office cheering when something unfortunate happened to a celebrity,” she said. “You lose sight of what is real when you live everyday like ‘gotta get the big story, gotta get the big story.’”

Though her unconventional career may seem fabulous, it’s all an illusion, says Ray. “It’s very glamorous to the outsider, never to the person who has to trek around Los Angeles in their own car, make sure their makeup’s OK, go from one shoot to the other and manage everyone’s expectations.”

So, if you found yourself being dragged to yet another ceremony this summer, at least you can turn it into a feature byline worth up to $1/word. “We’re really interested in real couples’ stories,” said executive editor Rebecca Dolgin, “right down to the centerpieces and how they personalized the program.”

Besides pitching the national print mag, The Knot is also open to ideas for its regional pubs and website, which gets 3 million uniques a month. And if you want to avoid the slush pile, make sure to familiarize yourself with the community: “Their voice is really infused in our content across the platform,” said Dolgin.

LA Social Curation Summit: Early-Bird Registration Ends TODAY
