CBS Continues To Bitch Slap 48 HR Magazine
48 HR Magazine, the start-up publication produced entirely in one weekend, has been getting plenty of grief from CBS. The network giant feels the magazine infringes on their trademark for the series 48 Hours, and while they may not have a case, they can afford more lawyers.
48 HR Mag is attempting to work with CBS, and have offered to change their name. But that isn’t enough for CBS. Business Insider reports the network is making the following demands:
CBS wants to be able to vet the magazine’s new name. CBS wants to own the magazine’s existing URL, 48hrmag.com. It’s unclear how long the network would be willing to allow that URL to redirect to the magazine’s yet-to-be-created new website, which Honan said would be the only way to ensure continuity between the debut issue, created the weekend of May 7, and the second issue, which they’re planning for the end of August.
48 HR co-creator Mat Honan expressed his frustration via Twitter:
CBS is going to try to f*ck us pretty hard. Horrible to see a huge, dying media property kill something you love for no goddamn reason
