Chick Hearn Selected to LAT Sports Figures List

Chick Hearn, the voice of the Los Angeles Lakers for nearly 40 years, was selected as the No. 7 greatest figure in Los Angeles sports history by online readers of the Los Angeles Times.

He’s the second media member to make the Top 20 — former LAT sports columnist Jim Murray was No. 19 on the list.

Hearn, who died in 2002, called 3,338 consecutive games for the Lakers from 1965 to 2001. The streak came to an end after  the Hall of Fame announcer underwent cardiac bypass surgery. Hearn was honored by the Lakers last year with a bronze statue outside Staples Center.

This city has truly been blessed with three broadcast legends in Hearn, Vin Scully (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Bob Miller (Los Angeles Kings). LA sports fans should enjoy the final years of Scully and Miller behind the mic.
