Kelly Swoope (pictured), a 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. news anchor at ABC affiliate WMAR-TV in Baltimore, is safely back from LA. But not for long. She will be flying out again soon to continue her on-site coverage of “Charm City” Dancing with the Stars contestants Jacoby Jones and Dorothy Hamill.
Swoope has posted a funny little summary of her first trip to the City of Angels. It’s a write-up that will have the proprietors of a certain Fairfax Ave. establishment smiling:
Los Angeles is a very interesting city. There is a lot wealth, fancy cars, nice clothing and bad plastic surgery. However there are a lot of normal, working class people too.
We had dinner at Canter’s restaurant in LA. It’s been around since 1931. Our waitress Maria was one of the nicest people we met while we were there. It wasn’t a fancy restaurant. It reminded me of the diners that you see in Baltimore like the Double T and Bel Loch. There was no glitz or glamour, just a good old-fashioned patty melt with sweet potato fries.
Jones is paired on the show with Karina Smirnoff while Dorothy Hamill is dancing with Tristan McManus. Jones is also one of several DWTS contestants guest-blogging for the LA Times about his DWTS experiences. Today, he told Sports Now editor Houston Mitchell that although his mom is his number one fan, she also thinks the record-setting punt returner needs “to improve on my posture in order to execute with more precision.”
Update – 03/22/13: Canter’s appreciates the love. Here’s a tweet from their end in the wake of our article:
