Miss California Organization Bought Miss USA Contestant Big Fake Boobs

In an interview with Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush, Shanna Moakler, the co-executive director of the Miss California Organization, confirmed that the group paid for Miss California Carrie Prejean‘s breast implants. Prejean sparked a media frenzy when she spoke out against gay marriage during the Miss USA competition a couple weeks ago. While she’s gone on to make several media appearances discussing her stance on same-sex marriage, according to Moakler, Prejean won’t even return calls to her bosses at the Miss California organization.

In her defense, she’s been busy. Prejean has formed a partnership with the anti-gay group National Organization for Marriage. Today they released the following advert:

New Shepard Fairey Posters Go On Sale Today

Shepard Fairey collaborated with Ernesto Yerena to create two new posters in support of immigration reform. 450 screenprint editions of the posters will go on sale at Cimarrones.org at noon today. The posters are $45 each, and all proceeds go to the May Day marches and immigration reform organizations.

Mega-Downsizing at Newspaper Association of America

According to their website, the Newspaper Association of America is a “nonprofit organization representing the $47 billion newspaper industry and more than 2,000 newspapers in the U.S. and Canada.” It can’t bode well for the newspaper industry that yesterday NAA laid off half its staff and announced that they would no longer publish a print edition of their magazine Presstime.

On the upside, NAA President John Sturm said the association hopes to reduce member dues.

Billionaire Peter Thiel, hedge fund-manager, early Facebook investor, and co-founder and former CEO of Paypal, has written a little essay about his libertarian views for the libertarian blog Cato Unbound. We should note that Cato Unbound doesn’t identify itself as a blog, but a “state-of-the-art virtual trading floor in the intellectual marketplace, specializing in the exchange of big ideas.” Gosh.

But we digress. Enjoy an excerpt of Thiel’s political insights:

Reveille announced today it has partnered with Rodale Inc. to develop and produce an unscripted television program based on Eat This, Not That!, the bestselling book series created by Men’s Health Editor-in-Chief David Zinczenko and Food and Nutrition Editor Matt Goulding.

Eat This, Not That! was inspired by the popular Men’s Health magazine column and presents a no-diet weight-loss solution that allows consumers to eat their favorite foods and still lose weight. Struggling Tribune Co. to Pay for Zell’s Lawyer in Blago Case

Divorce yourself from the fact that the LA Times is melting. Don’t think of how the home of the late humorist, H.L. Mencken – the Baltimore Sun (also a Tribune Co holding) is now a shell of its former self.

The Chicago Tribune reports:

Financially strapped Tribune Co. plans to pay the legal bills of Chairman and Chief Executive Sam Zell, who has been interviewed as a potential witness in the federal corruption investigation of former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, according to a company filing Tuesday in bankruptcy court.

Sam Zell is a freaking billionaire! Billion. Billionaire. Tycoon. Mogul. Has money. Not broke. Not worried about his health care or 401K. Billionaire.

He can’t pay his own legal bills? Just this once? This time? Serious?

AlwaysOn OnHollywood 2009: “The Future of Television” Panel

OnHollywood 2009, a three day executive event in West Hollywood, entered its second day today. “The Future of Television” panel was moderated by Kara Swisher, Co-Executive Editor of All Things Digital. Panelists included BermanBraun Partner/Co-Founder and Seinfeld character namesake Lloyd Braun; NBC Entertainment & Universal Media Studios Co-Chairman Marc Graboff; and Yahoo Connected TV VP, Patrick Barry.

Uncertainty reigned supreme during the discussion at the Sofitel Hotel, with Graboff even conceding that a future without network television is a possibility: “We don’t want that fate to befall us,” he said, “but it might.” Then taking a more optimistic stance, he and Braun voiced their agreement that event programming such as award shows and sports broadcasts would help maintain TV’s viability.

Buzzwords like “transmedia” and “multiplatform” acted as the hopeful refrain of the discussion, with Graboff describing content that could be monetized across multiple platforms as the “holy grail.”

With the suggestion that Hulu provided one such lucrative platform, Swisher quipped, “I think my babysitter makes more money than Hulu.”
