Dean Kuipers Discusses And Signs “Operation Bite Back”

11dk.jpgLA Times editor Dean Kuipers will be at Book Soup Saturday evening for a signing of his new book “Operation Bite Back: Rod Coronado’s War to Save American Wilderness”. From the Book Soup website:

Rod Coronado was already one of America’s most notorious radical environmentalists when he launched Operation Bite Back, a war on fur farming that left a trail of burned-out labs and farms across the country and made him the subject of an intense, years-long FBI manhunt. Now his legacy has made him part of a legal battle over whether or not radical environmentalists should be prosecuted as terrorists.

With unparalleled access, Dean Kuipers takes us deep into the heart of the campaign that helped give rise to the Animal Liberation Front and its spin-off the Earth Liberation Front, groups of anonymous eco-radicals responsible for over twelve hundred acts of sabotage and a billion dollars in damages and now among the FBI’s top domestic terrorist priorities – even in the wake of 9/11.

Book Soup is located at 8818 W. Sunset Blvd in West Hollywood.

Is Michael Jackson Making Trouble for Perez Hilton?

How Perez Hilton managed to get himself nestled in with Michael Jackson news is dumbfounding. Anyway, the toady gossip after a week of sobbing about being punched in the face for talking smack to Will.i.am and his manager. That “smack,” of course, getting him denounced by GLAAD. Hilton then announced all the money from his upcoming lawsuit against Will.i.am and his manager would go to the Matthew Shepard Foundation. Cough. In a statement Judy Shepard said they are “unable to accept any funds obtained in such a manner.” Good.

Anyway, yesterday Hilton posted Jackson’s reported heart attack was an attempt to get out of his upcoming tour. The full post is here. Jackson fans and general Hilton haters/don’t carers started a Twitter hash tag #unfollowperez. When the trend started, Hilton had 1.8 million followers on Twitter. As of this morning, it’s down 800,000.

The irony here is – we’ve never cared nor covered Perez Hilton but now because of this story we’re forced to – so if all else fails, at least two humble grumpy bloggers are watching. Grumble.

  • Is Michael Jackson Making Trouble for Bruno?

    Bruno-Striptease-Riot-Sacha-Baron-cohen-webcastr.jpg
Kim Masters at Daily Beast reports there is a scene in the new Sacha Baron Cohen movie Bruno with La Toya Jackson and a reported Michael Jackson joke.

    Masters writes:

Asked whether the studio will alter the film, a Universal executive yesterday shot back with two words: “Too soon.”

This is after the premier of Bruno at the Mann Chinese Theater where the pop icon’s star was under the red carpet and fans were strangely over on Vine at the wrong Michael Jackson’s star.

UPDATE: That scene was taken out of the film reports EW.

Comic Artist John Campbell gave us this one. Nice work. Especially on the day where two icons (Micheal Jackson and Farrah Fawcett) died within hours of each other.

    The Wrong Michael Jackson

LAist has pointed out that confused fans are gathering at the Michael Jackson star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. That’s Michael Jackson, the radio talk show host, who is very much alive. The star for the recently deceased pop icon Michael Jackson is currently covered up by a red carpet, laid down for this evening’s premiere of “Bruno.”

Well, it’s the thought that counts.
