Coalition Fights for Restoration of LA Public Access TV Channels
Remember John Cunningham‘s LA public access TV show Driveways of the Rich and Famous? We do, lovingly.
Nevertheless, the migration of such programming to YouTube and a gazillion other online streaming outlets is going to make it that much more difficult for a new coalition featuring the likes of Ed Asner, Vin Di Bona and former LA Daily News editor Ron Kaye to be successful in their effort to restore LA’s public access TV channels, dialed down in 2006.
Below is Part 1 of a twelve-part series for the cause, put together by Full Disclosure in support of a separately launched website, P-Tic.com (Public – Television Industry Corporation). Never mind that all twelve sections of the talking-heads plea are hosted on YouTube.
The kind of hands-on learning environment that public access once represented for future TV producers, hosts and camera people has now been subsumed in LA by FunnyorDie.com and many others. RIP public access, alongside the LP, the pager and the dumb phone.
