ESPN’s Bill Simmons to Launch His Own Site

ESPN’s star blogger Bill Simmons is finally going solo…Well, not exactly. He recently re-upped with ESPN and will be writing for them for the foreseeable future. But Simmons is launching his own site, backed by ESPN but not under the ESPN banner.

“This is something that was really important to me when my contract was up at the end of last year,” Simmons told the Sports Business Journal. “It’s going to have a bunch of quality writers. And it’s going to have the flexibility to have a lot of people come in and write one time a year or a couple of times a year, whatever. I’m hoping that we’re going to have enough quality people coming out of the gate that other people are also going to want to write for it.”

Simmons says he’s already signed up two writers in Chuck Klosterman and Katie Baker. He expects to have a fulltime staff of between 8 to 12 writers. Simmons gave no time frame for the site’s launch.
