FBLA Exclusive: Variety Folds Variety Weekend

varietylogo.gifIn this season of downsizing, Variety is folding Variety Weekend, the trade’s attempt to capture the lifestyle of the go-go set. The section was helmed by the lovely and talented Deborah Vankin — who had also been a Senior Editor at VLife Magazine (before Variety shut that down, too).

We have no idea what a Weekend-less Variety would look like (we’re guessing more stories about prexies and toppers, fewer about revamping your wardrobe). As for Vankin, who has been a senior editor at LA Weekly and a freelancer for the LAT Sunday Book Review, the NYT Style section, Swink magazine and other pubs, she tells FBLA she’s returning to the life of the freelancer — so we look forward to seeing her lollygagging at The Grove in the middle of the workday with the rest of us.

[10 a.m. update: And by "FBLA Exclusive," of course we mean, "as reported on LA Observed on Sept. 26." Our apologies to Kevin Roderick.]
