Saturday Night Aussie Fever?

We couldn’t help notice a tantalizing juxtaposition on the list of confirmed attendees for this Saturday’s G’Day USA Australia Week black-tie gala dinner. The January 22nd event at the Hollywood Palladium, a.k.a. the “Aussie Ball,” is part of a sly annual PR extravaganza staged by the Australian Consulate-General.

Among the three Australians to be inducted in the G’Day Hall of Fame is Bee Gee Barry Gibb (pictured). He will be introduced by Olivia Newton-John, while actress Abbie Cornish will get her award from Zach Snyder and tennis champ Roy Emerson will be framed by Andre Agassi.

But that’s not the tantalizing part. Regular event attendee John Travolta is also confirmed for January 22nd.

It’s old hat for Travolta to link up with Newton-John; in fact, they did the Grease reunion deed at last year’s G’Day gala. No, the real fun could be – and perhaps, will be – had if Saturday Night Fever star Travolta does a little Saturday night stage dance in honor of sountrack meister Gibb. While we’re at it, maybe rumored event host Hugh Jackman can separately offer himself up as the guy to play Gibb on-screen, if and when that rumored Bee Gees biopic gets moving. Spielberg or no Spielberg.
