The GLAAD Media Awards nominations have been announced, and these selections are a lot more fun than the Oscars or the Golden Globes. Nominated for best wide-release feature is Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, along with Little Miss Sunshine, V for Vendetta, Running With Scissors, and The Night Listener. Borat is not mentioned, not that anyone expected it to be.
Special awards will be presented to Patti LaBelle, Martina Navratilova, Tom Ford, and Spanish language jouranlist and writer Jaime Bayly. Navratilova’s the best tennis player ever, LaBelle’s an icon, Bayly’s received death threats in his native Peru and Ford just released a very stinky perfume, so we’re a tich confused about why Ford gets an award, but whatever. He looks great all dressed up, and that’s what counts at a party.
GLAAD also does reality show awards and it should be a real fight–nominees are Amazing Race 10 (CBS). Big Brother: All-Stars (CBS), Project Runway (Bravo), Queer Eye (Bravo), Work Out (Bravo).
But on the other hand, the nominees for Outstanding Magazine Overall Coverage finds CosmoGIRL! and People slugging it out with AsiaWeek and the Chronicle of Higher Education. We’re betting on CosmoGIRL!
(No blog category? How 20th century!)
For GLAAD, the party never ends–they give out the awards at events all over the country–here in Los Angeles, save April 14 and plan to attend.
