Chapman Grad Joins Yuma’s CBS Affiliate

Congratulations are in order for Janet Avelar. Per an announcement today on the website of CBS affiliate KSWT-TV in Yuma, AZ, she has joined the station as a general assignment reporter.

Avelar interned at KABC-TV while studying broadcast journalism at Chapman University in Orange. She went on to join the station as a news assistant before moving over to a producer position with ABC affiliate KESQD-TV in Palm Desert. Then it was back to Los Angeles to hone her on-camera skills on public access channel LA CityView 35.

Avelar’s colleagues at KSWT include assignment desk editor Karen Castro, a graduate of Cal State Northridge’s journalism program who also interned at KABC while in school.
