Journalists at G20 Summit Arrested, Threatened With Rape, Mainstream Press Doesn’t Notice
Journalists and female protesters are speaking out about being arrested and mistreated during the G20 Summit. Accusations include threats of rape, male officers strip-searching females, and sexual assault. Lfpress.com reports:
“I was throttled by a cop and later threatened with rape,” Amy Miller, of the Alternative Media Centre, said. “I saw young women being strip searched by men.”
Maryam Adriangi, of Toronto Community Mobilization Network, said she was also threatened with rape.
“I was harassed by police and had racist and sexist comments made against me,” Adriangi said.
Oddly enough, little attention is being paid by the mainstream media to these horrific allegations. Stories by the LA Times and NY Times mention police violence against protesters, but not sexual threats and assaults. Popular media blogs like Romenesko and Gawker have also failed to cover the story.
Jezebel, however, is all over it.
