Kurt Vonnegut on Writing

It’s Friday, the economy sucks. So we’d thought we’d try and cheer you all up by posting a speech Kurt Vonnegut made in 2002 at Albion College that just found its way onto YouTube.

Some of it was from his last book, “A Man Without a Country,” and perhaps the best semi-colon joke ever written. “Don’t use semicolons. They stand for absolutely nothing. They are transvestite hermaphrodites. They are just a way of showing off. To show that you have been to college.”

He also mentions his daughter was married to Geraldo Rivera. Who knew?

Then the writer who passed in 2007 said, “The most stirring symbol of man’s humanity to man that I can think of is a firetruck.”
