Those Henry Rollins LA Blues
Last week, recently installed LA Weekly columnist Henry Rollins griped upon his return from North Korea and other far-distant reaches about the ugly undertow of the city. He wrote:
LA allows people to live in it for years and never feel like they have lived here for any period of time. I have been all over the world, and no place makes me feel so incredibly alone at times as LA does.
This week, LA Weekly reader Richard – a former Angeleno now happily ensconced in Catalunya, Spain – ups the anti-ante. He writes in to tell Rollins that these sentiments may well have something to do with the vast expanse of water that lies just beyond Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade. Suggests Ricardo:
Some Indians say the Pacific Ocean does not have a memory… LA makes you forget, it sucks you right into its realities, its Kodachrome light, and after a while you’re not sure if you were born there or if you arrived at LAX three days before.
LA Weekly editors react to Richard’s thoughts in their “LA comment” section today with a WTF?! But here at FishbowlLA, we prefer to go in the other acronym direction of FTW!!
