LAT’s Loh Blow or High Brow Tsinger?
Susan Carpenter‘s review of Sandra Tsing Loh‘s book in the LAT was brought to our attention by Todd Everett at his blog.
There was one paragraph that Everette caught:
Loh is a cunning linguist who’s honed her craft over 20 years, and it shows. Her language is imaginatively twisted and fearless in its presentation of inconvenient truths about life in sprawling, status-conscious L.A. — whether it be schools, which is the main through line of the book, or her personal life.
A cunning linguist? Really? Isn’t that what Jack Mayoff and Howard Gablomey are? We hope Carpenter came up with that phrase independently and innocently and it slipped by editors and found its way onto the page. Hysterical.
