Laura Chick Is California’s New Inspector General

laura chick.jpgLaura Chick is, in fact, California’s very first inspector general. It’s a position similar to to her current post as city controller, only there’s a lot more cabbage involved. Chick will be overseeing the disbursement of California’s $48 billion share of the federal stimulus package funds. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger showed astonishingly good sense, both in creating the post and assigning it to Chick. From the LA Times:

The governor, who created the $175,000 job by executive order, dismissed questions about whether the position was necessary when financial shortfalls are already causing state employees to be furloughed. “Laura has proven here in Los Angeles that whatever salary she gets here is worth it a hundred times over,” he said.
