Clownfish of the Week: Scott Prusha
Thanks to a half-baked production error, Texas based sports memorabilia firm Panini America Inc. recently printed cards of St. Louis Cardinals pitching prospect Jordan Swagerty affixed with a translucent sticker bearing the autograph of Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson.
The mix-up was first reported by CardboardConnection.com, with writer Brett J. Lewis calling it “one of the oddest and most intriguing errors in [sports card] history.” On the other hand, those lucky enough to have purchased this upside-down, no-look component of the 2010 Donruss Elite Extra Edition set may soon have something worth a few flip-bucks on eBay.
Panini marketing manager Scott Prusha, via CardboardConnection.com, released this statement:
It’s an extremely unfortunate – but honest – mistake and we can’t apologize enough to collectors. What we can do, however, is what we always do: Atone for our mistake and make things right for collectors.
A properly signed version of the Swagerty card is being produced, and those willing to exchange the Magic-ally autographed one will receive a complimentary Elite Extra Edition card of Manny Machado for their efforts.
