New Service Leads to Crowd-Sourced LA Billboard

The performing arts world has been revolutionized in the past few years by Kickstarter and IndieGoGo. Now, there’s also EpicStep, an online service intended to help those looking to publicize their causes through advertising display billboards.

On Monday, August 8, such a byproduct will be erected at the LA intersection of La Cienega and Olympic Boulevards. Per a blog item by Ryan Torock in the Jewish Journal, the billboard in question echoes another one recently raised in Manhattan on behalf of Gilad Shalit, a young Israeli soldier held captive since 2006 by Hamas:

Studio City resident Gal Sitty said he chose the location on La Cienega Boulevard for its proximity to the Israeli consulate and other Jewish institutions, including the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles and the Simon Weisenthal Center.

He hopes the Los Angeles billboard will get approximately 200,000 “exposures” – billboard industry lingo for “pair of eyes” – each week, a figure quoted to him by the company that owns the billboard space.

Sitty, who was also responsible for the New York Shalit billboard (pictured), was able to book the LA ad space through early September.  Epicstep.com meanwhile was launched earlier this year by a trio of Jewish entrepreneurs.
