NY Times Perfunctorily Asks A Mexican

amlogo.jpg

The NY Times profiles Gustavo Arellano, author of the Ask a Mexican column and book and sends Mireya Navarro, to do it. Alas, sparks don’t fly, and the reporting is lifeless. The piece makes a point of his qualifcations:

Mr. Arellano, who holds a master’s degree in Latin American studies from the University of California, Los Angeles, consults experts, libraries and databanks to lob back the grenades.

Thank goodness he’s not just shooting from the hip.

Navarro’s most memorable recent piece was about Knocked Up, and why the movie should have been 15 minutes long.
