Yesterday, New York Times reporter James Risen published a page one story about Afghanistan’s mineral deposits that was widely blasted around the blogosphere. Risen was apparently upset about the criticism, because when Yahoo! News blogger John Cook called to ask him about the story, Risen seemingly implied that his critics were too busy soiling their pajamas to understand his reporting.
Seems pretty juicy. But when Cook’s actual story came out, however, it contained no references to pajama self love. This was the quote instead: “Bloggers should do their own reporting instead of sitting around in their pajamas.”
Where’s the self-love Mr. Cook? If the quote’s not good enough for the story, should you really be tweeting about it beforehand? You can’t tease us with pajama masturbation and then not deliver. It ain’t right.
