Pat Sajack Apologizes for Keith Olbermann

It’s been a strange few days for Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajack. It began with a female contestant, Caitlin Burke, solving a lengthy puzzle on the program last Friday with barely a Vanna-flipped letter square turned, prompting folks on the Internet to suspect that she had cheated (she hadn’t).

Now comes a blog post by Sajack himself at Ricochet.com. The game show host wonders aloud how Keith Olbermann, a man he helped introduce to national TV audiences in the late 1980′s, has gone on to become the mercurial MSNBC host of today.

Writes Sajack:

I’m not sure how he [Olbermann] morphed into the bitter-sounding, hate-mongering name-caller he’s become, but I’m sorry he did. I liked the guy, and he was always a good guest. Maybe it’s just show business and trying to find a place in it and building an audience, but I don’t know. We were never friends away from the show, so I can’t even guess what drives him.

Should be interesting to see if, when and how Olbermann responds to his one-time showbiz acquaintance’s “Mea Culpa” musing.

Update – 11/17/10: Olbermann finally has responded, via e-mail to The Hollywood Reporter. Says the only thing Sajack needs to apologize for is his talk show.
