Producers Guild: Include Us Out of AMPTP

FBLA has been waiting for this. The Producers Guild of America, which isn’t a guild like the others, but more of a trade association, or even a club, wants to make sure that they’re not confused with the Alliance Of Motion Picture & Television Producers (AMPTP), aka the bad guys in the WGA strike. Vince van Patten, president of the PGA, is sending out emails, making sure that everyone knows who’s who:
The WGA’s battle is with the studios and networks–the Alliance—not with producers. It’s true, the last “P” in AMPTP stands for “producers”. But that designation is a vestige of a time long past, when producers and studios were effectively synonymous.
Nikki Finke will use the term Big Media for AMPTP.
Others may not be so tactful.
