Two of the 20 finalists for the 2011 Livingston Awards for Young Journalists hail from local publications. Staff writer Molly Hennessy-Fiske of the Los Angeles Times is in the running, and Cindy Carcamo has been nominated for a piece that appeared in local literary journal Slake: Los Angeles. Carcamo is a reporter for the OC Register.
About the awards, per the website:
The Livingston Awards for excellence by professionals under the age of 35 are the largest all-media, general reporting prizes in American journalism. They are also unusual in judging print, broadcast and online entries against one another, a practice of increasing interest as technology blurs traditional distinctions between rival branches of the profession.
Winners will be announced on June 6.
