Slate V Joke Contest: Read the Fine Print

Bleyer10.jpg

The Daily Show’s Kevin Bleyer awaits your entries in Slate V’s Comedy News Contest.

Users can submit their best joke on a news story for their chance at $500 and to be featured on Slate V. Famous among dozens.

But judging by one of the rules, Bleyer himself might have some trouble with eligible material:

It must not be derogatory, generally offensive, threatening, sexually offensive, defamatory, libelous or otherwise cast the celebrity in a negative light

Way to kill the inspiration, buddy. Only good clean wholesome topical fun. Mean jokes about the nonfamous are acceptable, but since no one knows who you’re mocking, there’s a risk of losing relevancy points.

Also, just by entering, you’re giving Slate some new ideas:

GRANT. By entering, you grant Sponsor the unrestricted, royalty free, perpetual right to display, modify, perform, copy and create a derivative work from your Recording.

So, if your video is funny, but you’re ugly, Slate can rework the joke. And you can get a little rush, knowing that you helped.

Go get that camera, and keep it clean!
