Some Midterm Races on Twitter

Republicans have “institutionalized” Facebook. But Twitter is still the wild west. Well, not as wild as ’09. Politicians are not tweeting themselves anymore. But we have done some of our own states on key races around the country and in our state.

Nevada Senate race:
Harry Reid (D): 12,563 followers
Sharron Angle (R): 8,089 followers

California Governor Race:
Meg Whitman (R): 242,141 followers
Jerry Brown (D): 1,100,939 followers

California Senate Race:
Carly Fiorina (R): 308,850 followers
Barbara Boxer (D): 23,724 followers

Delaware Senate Race:
Christine O’Donnell (R): 10,909 followers
Chris Coons (D): 2,193 followers

Arizona Governor Race:
Jan Brewer (R): 14,474 followers
Terry Goddard (D): 2,902 followers

What’s interesting is that Twitter followers don’t necessarily reflect the polls in these races. In Delaware, Chris Coons is ahead in some polls by 20 points yet he’s trailing in followers. Same with Boxer in California. The Whitman v. Brown match up is similar to polling. As is the Arizona governor’s race. Boxer is not doing well on Twitter, but in the polls she’s pulled ahead of her opponent Fiorina.
