Jimmy Kimmel Lands Oprah for Oscars Special

For years now, the most entertaining part of the Oscars has been Jimmy Kimmel‘s post-Academy Awards special.

The ABC late night talk show host landed some serious star power for his seventh special Thursday when the network announced Oprah Winfrey would join Kimmel on Feb. 26.

This should be a change of pace for Winfrey, who is normally doing the interviewing.

Kimmel is the right man behind the desk to make the former talk show giant squirm just a little bit while she promotes her new weekly series on OWN, Oprah’s Next Chapter.

Billy Crystal, Meryl Streep, George Clooney and Martin Scorsese will also join Kimmel and Coldplay will close out the show.

Eastman Kodak Co. Wants Out of Hollywood

The 131-year-old company asked a U.S. bankruptcy court judge Wednesday to release them from its $75 million naming rights deal with the CIM group, which owns the complex.

“Kodak is proud of its important role in the Entertainment industry, and our long standing relationship with film makers,” Kodak spokesman Christopher Veronda said in a statement. “Our motion today reflects our commitment to ensure that we are maximizing value for our entertainment customers, creditors and other stakeholders.”

Billy Crystal Replacing Eddie Murphy as Oscars Host

Actor Billy Crystal tweeted Thursday that he would host the 84th Academy Awards, replacing Eddie Murphy who dropped out Wednesday after producer Brett Ratner resigned.

The Academy hasn’t formally issued a statement yet, but they did retweet Crystal’s tweet. Brian Grazer was tapped as Ratner’s replacement on Wednesday.

The Academy tried to go the edgy route with the duo of Ratner and Murphy, but they are clearly playing it safe from here on out by selecting Crystal as host for a ninth time.

Brian Grazer Will Produce 2012 Academy Awards

Grazer is best known for producing A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13 and funny enough, a trio of Eddie Murphy films in Tower Heist, The Nutty Professor and Boomerang.

That means Grazer and Murphy will be reunited once again … oh wait … Murphy decided to pull out as host when his BFF decided to quit due to his poor judgement and homophobic comments.

“Brian Grazer is a renowned filmmaker who over the past 25 years has produced a diverse and extraordinary body of work,” said Academy president Tom Sherak in a statement. “He will certainly bring his tremendous talent, creativity and relationships to the Oscars.”

Eddie Murphy Drops Out of 2012 Academy Awards

Less than 24 hours after Brett Ratner resigned as producer of the 2012 Academy Awards for using a homophobic slur, host Eddie Murphy dropped out as well.

The Academy released the following statement Wednesday:

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Tom Sherak announced that Eddie Murphy has withdrawn as host of the 84th Academy Awards. “I appreciate how Eddie feels about losing his creative partner, Brett Ratner, and we all wish him well,” said Sherak.

Commented Murphy, “First and foremost I want to say that I completely understand and support each party’s decision with regard to a change of producers for this year’s Academy Awards ceremony. I was truly looking forward to being a part of the show that our production team and writers were just starting to develop, but I’m sure that the new production team and host will do an equally great job.”

Report: Brett Ratner Out as Oscars Producer

The Hollywood Reporter reports director Brett Ratner is out as producer of the 2011 Academy Awards:

“Ratner had been named as the producer of the 2012 Academy Awards show, but he has been under fire for making a series of ill-judged remarks in recent days, including saying “rehearsal is for fags” and discussing his sex life with Howard Stern.

The Academy is expected to issue an announcement detailing the situation later today. It is not yet known whether Eddie Murphy, who stars in Ratner’s film Tower Heist and was recruited by Ratner to serve as the host of the Oscar show, will remain involved with the production.”

Ratner issued an apology Monday for saying “rehearsal is for fags,” but it appears it wasn’t enough for the Academy.

Update: 4:30 p.m. — After the jump is a statement from the Academy on Ratner submitting his resignation:

Julie Christie–what’s with the gloves? Formal wear for the food-service professional?

Lynda Obst’s writing is so on the mark, polished and smart. Her taste is impeccable. So why does she produce such crap?

Fox’s New Morning Show — How They’ll Cover the Stories That Mean the Most to Los Angeles

Fox is adding a new national morning show to its roster at 9 a.m. on Jan. 22, when it plucks Mike Jerrick and Juliet Huddy from FOX News Channel’s Dayside, and gives them the The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet.

This is a NY-based show, but both TV personalities have been reporters in L.A. in their past lives: Jerrick hosted a news show for 10 years in the 80s and raised his daughters in Pacific Palisades, while Huddy reported for KADY-TV in Ventura early in her career.

And both tell FBLA that they have a strong affinity for this fair (OK, these days, freezing) land of ours. But you can’t trust the media. So we put these talking heads to the test, asking them to riff — morning show style — on the stories that matter most to Angelenos. Here’s what they said:

Lindsay Lohan: “I would make this take as a father as two young ladies in their 20s, and I would be rooting for her. She’s got a wild family,” Jerrick says.

Huddy chimes in: “The mom, from everything I’ve heard, there doesn’t seem to be anything reigning the girl in. How is she supposed to turn out when she has mom and dad encouraging chaos?”

Jerrick: “Right.

Huddy: “When Britney Spears had a picture taken of her, holding her baby in the front seat, Mike and I were on air, dissing her. Her father called our control room, distraught. And it brought me down to reality. This is a human being. It was a wake-up call. She’s a kid.

Jerrick: “A lot television has turned young people’s lives into a sport. I hope she comes out of it well.”
